I'm just a girl. standing in front of a business owner, asking if they've got a brand and website that will sell their work for them when they're off enjoying their life...

I’ve been in business for about 6 years now, and if there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s that I cannot do this whole “running a business” thing by myself! Trust me, in the first few years, I really tried, and I absolutely fell on my face a few times. It wasn’t until I started outsourcing and allowing other women to use their zone of genius to help me that I saw things start to change in a really big way.
My clients ask me all the time who I recommend for all sorts of business tasks, and while I am always happy to share that information, I don’t brag about my group of ladies publicly nearly enough!
In honor of Galentine’s Day, I’m following the lead of Leslie Knope and celebrating the incredible ladies that I just couldn’t do business without!
Alright girlfriend (we’re friends now, btw) I’m just going to go down the list with no particular order, rhyme, or reason, because the ADHD brain is real and I don’t have the capacity to try to organize it more than just getting these fabulous ladies’ names out there more! Without further ado, allow me to shout their names from the rooftop of my little corner of the internet…
Sarah Burk
Pinterest Strategist + Manager
Holy moly, I cannot recommend this genius woman enough. Fun fact: I started my business as a social media manager, and I used to manage Pinterest accounts for my clients. But I never prioritizes Pinterest for myself, and the platform has changed a lot since then! Enter: Sarah Burk, my literal saving grace, angel, whatever else you think I should call her probably applies.
Anyways, my point is that even though I was familiar with the platform, I recognized that I couldn’t do it on top of serving my clients to the best of my ability, so I hired Sarah. She has done so much for my account over the past ~2 years of working together, it is unreal! I book so many Pinterest clients, and my work is constantly on my clients’ vision boards without them even realizing it! Worth every penny!
Not to mention, Sarah is just a fabulous biz friend to have in your corner. We bounce ideas off each other all the time, we’ve constantly got at least 3 different conversations going, and she is also neurodivergent so we relate on a lotttttt of topics in that realm, which is super nice considering how lonely than can feel sometimes.
Listen, writing is not my jam. Never has been, never will be. I’ve tried out my fair share of copywriters over the years, and Kathy is the best of the best. She’s able to effortlessly match my voice + write like I would (but a thousand times better) every single time we work together. I’ve had clients book me solely because they felt like my website was speaking straight to them more times than I can count! If that’s not a win, I honestly don’t know what else is.
Just like every other lady on this list, Kathy has become a good friend as well! We’ve brainstormed ways to do business better together, and I was over the moon for her when she let me know she was pregnant last year! We want the best for each other, and it’s so nice to have friends in your corner like that.
Being in front of Emily’s camera is one of the best feelings! She makes you feel confident and like you could take on the world! Every time I get photos back from her, I can’t help but smile ear-to-ear, but her talent and heart extends far beyond brand photography.
You know those people that come into your life and you think “how did I ever exist before you?” Emily is one of those people for me. To think that someone I didn’t know at all hired me for a VIP Day in January 2023 has become one of my absolute closest friends, confidants, and business partners is truly insane. We do both daily mundane life and exciting parts of business together. We voice memo each other daily with “crazy” ideas we’ve come up with for BYB or our respective businesses. We push each other to have more courage, to dream bigger, to break the mold and think up new things that didn’t exist before, and that has resulted in the creation of Build Your Brand. I truly don’t know how I ran my business before Emily came into my life, but I’m thankful that she’s in it now, and I won’t hesitate to let everyone know that they need her and her beautiful work!
I first met Caroline a few years back when she hired me to do the branding for what was at the time her VA/OBM business. We got along splendidly and quickly because business besties! She specializes in helping educators with their tech and launch plans and is absolutely brilliant! So when I was putting together and launching my course, I knew I needed to hire her so that my launch would go smoothly! I booked a VIP week with her and she wrote + scheduled my email sequences, came up with my social content, came up with freebies for me to link to in order to grow my email list, and SOOO MUCH MORE magic that I can’t wrap my head around, honestly.
Caroline and I have worked together back and forth in so many ways over the years, and she has definitely become a real life friend as well. So much so, that she’s collaborating with Build Your Brand for our workshop, From Creator to Educator, in March 2024!
Like I mentioned about writing, the same applies here: finances + taxes are not my jam. My mom is an accountant, so I tried my hardest to figure out small business accounting on my own the first few years in business (which had me pulling hair out). Then I found Young + Co. and my outlook changed forever!!
Talk about a team of women who really know their stuff and will support you through understanding this foreign subject any way they can. Everyone there goes above and beyond to help understand, file, and just plain do shit correctly, and I could not be more grateful. I don’t think I can ever not have them on the JAI roster!
I’ll wrap this up with honorable mention for a few other women who I’ve supported and support me right back over the years! Each of these ladies has had an impact on my business (and undoubtably my life) over the years, and they are FABULOUS!
And let’s be honest, I’m probably forgetting a few ? all that to say, you need a support system for your business, and hopefully these ladies will be a good start!
Because to be honest with you, pretty designs are cute and all, but you’ll go much farther and faster if your brand reflects where you want to be five, ten years from now. Just saying.
